My Staffie/Lab cross, Mollie, seems to love the daylight.

In winter, it's hard to get her out of the house before 8am and she takes herself to bed after supper at 6pm. But in the summer, she's up at the crack of dawn wanting to get out for her first walk of the day - we've set off at 4.20am every day this week and she will still want to patrol the garden at play ball at 9pm.

The transition from one state to the other occurs gradually as the seasons change

She is our first dog - Does anyone else's dog behave like this?

ATB

Jon

PS, I actually love getting out early, so it's not too great a hardship :)

Hi Jon

My boys are the same - they wake up around 4.15am and we go walkies.

At winter they are not so keen to walk in the dark either.

I wonder how many others find the same issue :)

I'm glad I'm not alone - my wife thinks all Mollie's behavioural traits are down to my poor management (I'm too soft with her) :)

Mine don't mind whether it is dark or light in the morning yet they are never keen to go in the garden for a bedtime pee when it's dark
They are both a lot better at walking in the rain, but again if it's bedtime pee they don't want to go out.
What makes me laugh is when it's raining and I make them go in the garden they just stand there shivering yet if they pee'd they could go straight back in

Mollie seems to be the reverse - in winter she goes out by torchlight just after 6 and after a quick scout round she pees and dashes back in. In the summer, she doesn't want to pee and dashes back in at the first opportunity. Dogs!
