Lunge lead

I've decided to invest in a 100ft lunge lead this week to allow Reuben to have some freedom on the fields but also me some control in case he gets spooked.
Today we went for a walk in the fields and I decided to get the ball out. I was throwing it close to me so Reuben could get it on his 10m extender lead. However on one occasion I threw it a bit far and the extender lead was tested to its limits
Reuben chased the ball beyond the length of his lead which took me off my feet and dragged me across the field.
I'm now nursing a bruised shoulder and grazed elbow and knee
So a lunge lead is a must and I just hope 100ft is long enough. The only length longer than this is 200ft and I dont know how easy this will be manage

Does anyone else use one of these and what length do you use?

I can't let him off in the fields unless it is secure and we can no longer go in the school field so the only time off lead is in the morning on the street.
In the fields he is constantly on edge listening for noise and I cannot risk him bolting. He does play with his ball and seems to be enjoying it but he can be chasing the ball and if he nears a noise he will stop dead and bolt.
I just can't risk him running as he does not always respond to me once he is running.
I used to take the car onto the field and he used to run to the car when spooked but now the gates are locked most days so I can't drive on so he doesn't have his safety net.

Ohhhhh lt me know how you get on - I have never really looked into them so I am sorry I can't offer any personal advice

yeah I remember you told me hed bolted a few times but thought maybe hed got out of this so defo better to be safe than sorry

I'm just debating whether to get 100 or 200 ft in length. I'm thinking 200 will allow him to chase after the ball on the fields without me worrying about him pulling me over if it goes further than intended

I ordered the 200ft one yesterday and it will hopefully be here early next week so I'll let you know how I get on with it

It's arrived but it is at the post office as it could not go through the letterbox so will collect in the next couple of days

Gosh, that's a long lead - I tought 100ft would be long.

I have a similar problem letting Mollie off her lead - though not because she gets spooked, but because she finds everything (people, dogs, deer, pheasants.....) more exciting than me and will dash off to them if she sees them. She isn't aggressive but will jump up at people and after being initially submissive, she jumps all over dogs, wanting to play - even if they don't!

I had been thinking of getting a long training lead - around 80 ft I had thought - so will be very interested to hear how you get on.

It's very long and we have not used it to the full extent yet, we have probably used about 100ft of it so far.
We will be able to use it to the full extent when we get on the football fields.
It's is a bit of a pain to use, mainly because I have to carry it in a large bag which would be Ok with just one dog.
The only other issue is that the field we have been on this week is full of goose poop

I have got two of these for when we go to a strange place for a run.

Kassi has a horse training line which is really strong. They are good fun for all, but you can imagine with two I am normally playing skipping as well as walking

It is, it's very long though. Even on the football pitch we didn't get it to the full extent x

Awwwww it's lovely to see them both having fun, especially Reuben, seems the lunge lead is working a treat

It's perfect, we've managed to get the fields all to ourselves every time we have been out so he can run to the full extent if he wants and I knows he completely safe

Exactly - it must be lovely to see him out enjoying himself xx
