Firstly welcome back Sam it really is so very good to hear from you...don't know if you remember me but we both had trouble with our girls not getting on at the same time and I understand everything you went through.

Secondly ..please do not do the weight pulling with your gorgeous girls. They both need a life of calm and gentle love. They deserve it after everything they have been through.

Your girls have been through enough in their life you and they have been pushed from pillar to post so much and you struggled so much to keep them and the last thing they need is the stress of weight pulling.

I have absolutely no doubt it will hurt them and damage them for life if you do this.

Hiya Sam and welcome back on board, really good to see you again.

Great news about the planning permission, hopefully it wont be too long before you are all together again.

Personally I think you would be best trying to find an alternative excercise for the girls. If you wanted to do weight pulling there is a lot involved around diet and doing it correctly with the appropriate items. You would have to be very strict with the diet and the dogs have to be in peak condition to be able to do it. If it is not done correctly then you risk injury to the girls.

I would look at doing agility initially which will give them a good general work out and see how they get on. If you still feel that weight pulling would be something you want to pursue then you should join a club which will be able to show you how to do it correctly

hi and welcome back :)

have to agree with jo and liz

although i am all for weight pulling as i,ve done it and seen it done it does need experienced trainers to do this correctly
it is a fab excercise yes and great fun for comps
but if you get it wrong not only does it risk injury you can actually incite aggression in them the dog fighters use this to muscle up their dogs for fighting although they dont use the correct methods i have to say as so its done incorrectly

if you do decide to go ahead i would suggest you really look in to it a lot and seek out a very good experienced trainer to come and meet your dogs assess them and go from there

agility would be a very good starting point to get them fit etc and as jo says go from that :)

hi wids, of course i rem you babe x x
**** i did not think it would be so bad, i was going to go to a class i was not going to do it myself, i did not think that it could insite aggression.
i am scared about doing agility as rosie temperment with other dogs, i thought as they love pulling on the lead they would love to do something like this.
i will look into other things then, i dont want to cause them any harm.
any other suggestions apart from agility i am going to start riding with them.

Do you have somewhere secure you can let them off lead Sam, maybe a local park with secure tennis pitch or football pitch? A noseball is great fun and great excercise but I would do it one on one with them as they may squabble over the ball.

Riding them on your bike will be good excercise too.

Have you thought about any training classes for socialisation as well as mind stimulation? I still take Reubs weekly and he is always shattered when we get home even though he has not been very physical

hi jo
we have a few parks with kids play areas that are secure but they have no dogs orders on them, we have lots of open fields round here but lots of dogs as well :( i cant let them off without coming into contact with lots of other dogs, i have even tried at 5 in the morning.
i am looking at doing it for exercise, and soc. rosie is to naughty to do something off lead with people and dogs she will cause havoc and she will get candy to join in.
we are taking them to training class, the bloke is a ex police trainer. i will get them sorted, i want to do riding with them to knacker them out and i want to do something with them.
fly ball sounds good if i can sort rosie out, they love jumping and catching and running x x

if your going to classes with a fully qualified trainer there shouldnt be a problem with aggression tbh it might poss help her if shes a bit anti social as it does work them well mentally too

although a bike or fly ball would also be fantastic for her :)

We have dog control orders too :-( I found the tennis courts were great for working with Reubs, we used to go a of training in there on a Saturday morning. There were lots of distractions for working on recall but it was 100% secure.

You may be suprised at how they behave at Flyball or Agility. When I used to do flyball Reubs was very temperamental with the dogs but he was so focused when he was working that he did not bother with them too much and after a few weeks he was used to all the dogs and he settled down with them.

May be worth trying it with Candy first but stick with it for a few weeks and see how you feel?

i will look into it. but mind you i am saying about rosie temp and that, as you know we init put candy with my friend as she is the better temp out of the two well i think it was because of the situ she could not cope she did not get on with my friends staffy, and tried to kill one of her cats.
rosie has been fine with both the other dog and the cats x x
but candy has been with us since she was 6 weeks old and dont think could cope with it all bless her, now we are back home she is so calm, i can even walk with her to the car if we are going out with out her lead on and she will just go to the car and sit and wait.
so good to be back home :)

yeah we are going to have our own little annex. will have a small cloakroom toilet and have room for the bed and a small sitting room area.
we are going to build kennels and runs for the girls so they can be in that during the day as we will not have the room for the creates, we will have to use the shower in the house and the kitchen but it will give us our own space and get rosie back with us.
i am fine suzie we are working with the agency still but we are back home now and more settled thank goodness.
the court case with what happened with the pub is all done now x x
